SOCA THURSDAYS IS BACK!

Let's face it, We ALL thought that Soca Thursdays was a thing of the past.  No one went anymore and if you did decide to go, the vibes were dead because no one was there.  It wasn't the fault of the venue or house DJ but it just stopped being  promoted.  There were no more flyers, Facebook posts or attendees to remind anyone that it was still going on.  So as the saying goes, "out of sight, out of mind".

Soca Thursdays was revamped and if you will, 'reborn' just in time for Spring/Easter when many people tend to reinvent themselves.  This revamp has been in the works for a long time but owners of The Ginger Bay Cafe wanted to be careful with who they chose.  After long deliberation *while the people suffered, Victorious Universe was chosen.

With only 4 days of promotion Ginger Bay Cafe was full!  No lie, it was visited the week before and there were three people inside what used to be the only place to get your soca addiction fixed.  Yes, three!  This week however, there were many new faces which is always welcomed by me and eventually the word will get around about the vibes and this will lure the regulars in again.  DJ House Arrest and Victorious played the music as Giselle D' Wassi One hosted. It was a night of pure vibes and I am happy that I went. With work for 8am on mornings, this will not be my 'home' every Thursday night but once I need a quick soca fix on a Thursday night *after Scandal, Ginger Bay once again will be my spot.

With a name like Jason 'Victorious' Victory, he is destined for greatness and Soca Thursdays is not his last stop *hint. "Victorious" has a vision for DJ's in South Florida.  He would like to see DJ's actually getting acknowledged and paid for their time, work and efforts.  "When DJ's feel appreciated, they're happy and when your DJ's are happy so are your patrons.  It's not about the money all the time, it's about making sure that your people are having a ball and keep wanting more. Once you succeed at that, the money will eventually come" - Victorious.

OFFICIAL KERWIN DUBOIS VIDEO

I have been waiting for approximately 2 weeks to be able to see this video. This video had the soca community of South Florida in a frenzy.  DJ Victorious gave me a call and told me to hurry up and come down to this video shoot.  When I did get there being in the video was the absolute last thing on my mind. It was in Miami and for those of you who have no idea, Miami is surrounded by water and contrary to popular belief, GETS COLD!!!! This video took ALL DAY and I must certainly commend those who had the diligence to stand, dance, drink, wine, basically fete an enjoy themselves, most of all - be in half naked costumes in that cold.  I went to sleep in the truck. Video that.

All in all, I'd like to give Victorious a little shout for being the featured DJ in the video.  It was also refreshing to see another SOCA video out there of a 'better quality' (for a lack of words) besides Machel you know?  Not taking anything from Machel because he is definitely a master at what he does but so is Kerwin.  Kerwin, like so many other Caribbean artists (not only the soca ones) don't get enough credit for their talent or accomplishments.  Kerwin did his thing. Nice video, check it out!

Talking about new video's another video that I found rather cute was Machel's video for Vibes Cyah Done

ITS BEEN A WHILE

Good Morning Guys!!!!

All shopped out?

HAPPY CYBER MONDAY

I know, it's been a while but like I've stated before, this blog is just not the kind that is up each and every day. I mean, not every day I can find something interesting enough to blog about. There was a lot to talk about during the band launch season in Trinidad for the 2012 carnival with all the drama surrounding ISLANDpeople from launch to revamp and discounts, YUMA and their change of costumes and payment hiccups, TRIBE with their major costume let downs and that's just to name a few.  But after all that's said and done, now what?  Trinidad and Tobago is no longer under curfew and they were plotting to assassinate the Prime Minister.  Um, we have Anya Ayoung-Chee has not only won Project Runway (with the help of every Trinidadian on the planet) but has debut her section in TRIBE's 2012 mas. Good for her!  I do have to admit that I thought her loyalties would have remained with ISLANDpeople Mas but hey, say what.

In this time away, a lot has changed. The best being that

I AM NO LONGER A CORRECTION OFFICER!!!!

Thanking God for small mercies!

Radio stations that I've been jamming to for this down time are Vibyz Radio and Trini Bashment Radio they have been keeping me up to date with the new releases cause this baby has abandonment issues lol.  I have to be in his eyesight 24/7!!  The parang is coming in slowly but surely on both stations and I'm loving the chat room on Vibyz Radio.

The same feel the radio stations both have will be in party form (so to speak) on the 17th. Check it out below.

Allyuh know I greedy bad lol don't get it twisted I'm going for the sorrel, black cake and especially for the puncha creme just as much as the music.  Feels good to drink someone elses besides mine for a change.  Hope to see you there!

BACCHANAL FRENZY 3!

2 MILLION DOWNLOADS AND GOING STRONG!!!!

It wasn't a surprise to me but I just thought that I should share the good news. DJ Victorious has passed the 2 million mark with his infamous BACCHANAL FRENZY 3 CD. The CD can be found directly on the website to both listen to and download here---> http://www.victoriousent.com/. If you'd rather listen to this CD from your computer click the link http://victoriousentertainment.podomatic.com/entry/2010-03-19T22_20_03-07_00 and to directly download the CD after listening to it to its entirety (I know you will) click the link http://www.mediafire.com/?wminymjj2mq

This CD has a compilation of chutney, groovy and fast paced soca. If you weren't in Trinidad for carnival to hear Beyonce actually sing her "Palance remix" you can hear a mix that will remind you of just that. I also think that DJ Victorious was the only one to actually mix in the chune that was bussin the world wide web, the sorrel chune "yuh wa some sorrel ah wha". This CD will have you laughing, applauding and wanting to party ASAYH! (As soon as you hear)
