WORLD PREMIER OF EDWIN YEARWOOD & GISELLE THE WASSI ONE'S COLLABORATION!!!!!

"Now you see Soca music.  Soca music don't care about your cultural background or your financial status.  ALL SOCA MUSIC CARE ABOUT is when you come out to enjoy yourself you have a great time. All Soca music wants to know... is that when you hear the the bass, the drums, the guitars and the horns start to blow, you open up your heart and accept the purest form of entertainment that there probably ever is. So when you stand up in the middle of an event.. in the middle of the road.. on top ah truck.. behind ah truck.. in front d truck.. smile, because you are part of something amazing". - Preedy.

SOCA THURSDAYS IS BACK!

Let's face it, We ALL thought that Soca Thursdays was a thing of the past.  No one went anymore and if you did decide to go, the vibes were dead because no one was there.  It wasn't the fault of the venue or house DJ but it just stopped being  promoted.  There were no more flyers, Facebook posts or attendees to remind anyone that it was still going on.  So as the saying goes, "out of sight, out of mind".

Soca Thursdays was revamped and if you will, 'reborn' just in time for Spring/Easter when many people tend to reinvent themselves.  This revamp has been in the works for a long time but owners of The Ginger Bay Cafe wanted to be careful with who they chose.  After long deliberation *while the people suffered, Victorious Universe was chosen.

With only 4 days of promotion Ginger Bay Cafe was full!  No lie, it was visited the week before and there were three people inside what used to be the only place to get your soca addiction fixed.  Yes, three!  This week however, there were many new faces which is always welcomed by me and eventually the word will get around about the vibes and this will lure the regulars in again.  DJ House Arrest and Victorious played the music as Giselle D' Wassi One hosted. It was a night of pure vibes and I am happy that I went. With work for 8am on mornings, this will not be my 'home' every Thursday night but once I need a quick soca fix on a Thursday night *after Scandal, Ginger Bay once again will be my spot.

With a name like Jason 'Victorious' Victory, he is destined for greatness and Soca Thursdays is not his last stop *hint. "Victorious" has a vision for DJ's in South Florida.  He would like to see DJ's actually getting acknowledged and paid for their time, work and efforts.  "When DJ's feel appreciated, they're happy and when your DJ's are happy so are your patrons.  It's not about the money all the time, it's about making sure that your people are having a ball and keep wanting more. Once you succeed at that, the money will eventually come" - Victorious.

MTV DECLARES A TIE?

After the days of voting for our own Bunji Garlin for his "Differentology" hit, the last hours of voting became too much for the server to handle and began blocking thousands from voting.  MTV  then took the highest two songs and had a tie breaker.  The new tie breaker poll accrued problems of it's own so MTV allowed additional voting time to be "fair" to all times zones.

What started as simple voting for your favorite artist/song ended up becoming a racially inspired drive. Tension heightened, racial slurs and nasty remarks were being exchanged in the comments box and social media.  Listen.  I don't know if this was some sort of ploy by fans to generate votes or if it was something that just went wrong fast but either way it was negative.  This is NOT the way Bunji would have wanted to win the title of "MTV IGGY Song of the Year" which he respectfully stated here.
With all the racial tension MTV had no choice but to end the 'debate' and declare it a draw.  I don't know about any of you but I see the 'draw' as degrees of losing.  There should have been a rightful winner and there wasn't.  One earned the title and to the other it was given.  So who with this being deemed a 'tie' or a 'draw', who really won?

I will not comment to ALL the people that made this happen but directing this to my Caribbean people.  We need to do better.  We need to come together as one unit, one family and express that 'ONE LOVE'.  This anger that I see spreading throughout the Caribbean community will only end with OUR demise, no one elses.  I feel like we are like the crabs in a barrel only trying to pull one another down and this is seen not only in the music industry but in real estate, job market, carnivals, parties, etc.  It is time to WAKE UP and not only DO BETTER but to DO WHAT IS RIGHT!!!

TIE BREAKER VOTE NEEDED FOR BUNJI GARLIN

Over the last couple days all social media has been flooded with VOTE VOTE VOTE for Bunji Garlin with his remixed Differentology.  He has been winning up until yesterday.  He fell below his competitior by a ridiculous .02%.  I don't know how often this sort of thing happens but I guess it was too close so the "MTV Gods" have opened a poll for ONLY the top two competitors.

Hear nah, we as Caribbean people are a set of LAST MINUTE PEOPLE so this should be right up our alley.  This poll closes 6pm Trinidad time, 5pm Eastern, 4 Central and so on.  The link to cast your vote is HERE.  Simply scroll to the bottom of the page and click.  It's THAT simple! We're not new to this. Just as we did for Anya, Tessanne and for Bunji in the past, we can do this for Bunji again!
