MIAMI CARNIVAL UPDATE

The Miami Broward One Carnival Host Committee JUST released publicly how many bands will be in attendance come October 7th! COUNT THEM, OVER 20!!! Things are heating up.  The next band launch on the carnival mas agenda is one of THE MOST anticipated band launches to date and that's Generation X!  GREAT thing about Generation X's launch is that Kes is performing LIVE! Somehow, I just have that feeling KES won't be the only performer there.  Tomorrow night, you guys will be in for a NICE surprise! It's so nice I can hardly contain myself!  

The festivities begin tomorrow with the cricket match at Lauderhill Stadium, then KES and........ see you there!

WHAT HAPPENED IN TAMIAMI, DIDN'T STAY IN TAMIAMI

Last weekend I had an invitation to attend the Runway Cafe to view costumes of the top 5 bands in Miami.  I think it was to help promote the restaurant more than the costumes though because if you are part of the TOP 5 you don't need much promoting because your costumes speak for themselves. With all the free publicity facebook offers, come on.  Anywho, of the 5 that were supposed to be there only 4 showed up.  Of that 4 were China Mas, Generation X, Party People Mas and Wassi Ones.  

The invitation that I got read: Miami Carnival Band Leaders are assembling their costumes for live display in an array of colors and styles at the Runway Cafe between 3pm-10pm.

As most know I can't make too many events out there because of the recent birth of my son but it didn't stop me from knowing what tragically happened that night.  Wassi Ones had a model who previously modeled for Generation X.  When the time came for her to model the costume, she allegedly got booed, rather loudly and was called a traitor by the onlooking Generation X members.  The same group danced around the venue singing and laughing that their band was already 'sold out' and behaved in a childlike manner. After speaking with 'JP' of Generation X, I could tell he was not happy and was rather upset and disappointed by the alleged behavior.  He was unaware that it happened because he wasn't able to make the event either.  What he did confirm however was that Generation X was INDEED sold out and they ended up having to order more costumes to accommodate their masqueraders.  I was told another Band Leader (that I could not get a hold of so I will not name names) was extremely upset because it seemed as though the owners of this restaurant were proud supporters of Generation X and felt as though inviting the rest of bands was to sabotage them. There were also complaints made that live models were to model the costumes and Generation X only had video. 

Man, I don't know what actually happened but what I do know is, at the end of the day, Generation X has sold out every section and made room for more. Only question I have is, where my free costume? Cause allyuh make money to burn!

Trick or Treat...The Aftermath

On the 30th of October Karma Productions, Party People and Royal Events decided to have a grown and sexy costume party named TRICK OR TREAT.  Prior to leaving the house (in costume) I was a bit on the uneasy side because I know that people in the past have gone to this fete in full costume but I have never been to any 'fete' in full costume. Private parties yes but one that's actually in a club, that wouldn't have close friends and family, NO.

When I did my normal 'club stalk' (circled the club in my car) and did my usual 'visuals', I noticed there was NO ONE outside waiting to get into club 954. YIKES!!! I decided to park the car anyway, I was already dressed in my garb and I wasn't about to turn away.  After parking the car, there was ONE person waiting in front of me, NO LINE, SWEET!  I expected a long wait because the party was advertised as women being free before 12am.  When I got to the door, I announced that I was CARNIVALVIBRATION and was told that I not only was on the guest list but there was a +1 as well.  This made the no line double sweet, the hubby got in with me ;-)

Once inside the setup was fun.  There were spider webs draped all over the place, rats on the bars, spiders hanging off the ceilings (I got scared by the spiders) and to my surprise a half full party going on.  This was good considering I got there a little before 12am which is really early.  The DJ was getting the crowd "warmed up" I put that in quotes because he was doing such a good job at it. The people didn't look like they were warming up at all. By this time people tend to be getting drinks and feeling out the place but the party was already in full swing.  The best part, I would say 95% of the party was in FULL costume.  By 1am the party was full and everyone was having a time.  I honestly had a better time at TRICK OR TREAT than I had playing mas for Miami carnival!  With that being said, I MUST give some shout outs to DJ's Dr Esan and Crown Prince.  They did the damm thing Saturday night.  They both had the right idea.  There wasn't too much of anything.  There was my favorite SOCA, there was reggae, rap, hip hop, pop, salsa, soft rock even.  There was something for everybody in the dance which was appreciated because although I LOVE my soca, parties like this is what makes you want to actually GO OUT.  If you continuously hear the same thing over and over you get fed up and wont mind missing a few weeks. Once DJ's understand that concept, they'll have (and keep) a crowd. Not because its 2010 means we only want to hear music from that year.

Overall, I have decided that once there is a TRICK OR TREAT and God spare life, I WILL be there!  Pictures will be up on CARNIVAL VIBRATION's website very soon! 

HALLOWEEN AGENDAS

This weekend is going to be yummy!  I had the pleasure of being invited to 2 Halloween fetes amd whats best about them is that attendees are expected to be dressed in FULL costume! WHOOO HOOOO! Can we say grown and sexy!!!!  In my search for finding that special costume just for me I got lazy and have resorted to what I refer to as El Lasy Shoppe better known as the world wide web.

There were some interesting finds and I tell you, google can find a needle in a haystack for you!  The parties would be:

TRICK OR TREAT

 

AND MASK

Both Trick or Treat and Mask will be held on Saturday the 30th of October.  It depeds on what kind of venue, crowd, price or amount of liquor that you like or plan to intake.  Trick or Treat will be an indoor/outdoor venue on the water at club 954 in Downtown Broward.  Hosted by Karma Productions, Party People and Royal Events.  It will be the normal party time, you will pay for entry and per drink, play pool, have 7 bars to choose from and will be expected to wear FULL costume.  Mask will be hosted by Islands United and Absolute Adventure at the Gulfstream Racetrack and Casino in Hallendale.  Just like Trick or Treat it will be normal party time, however, this party will be an all inclusive for the price of $45 presold and $60 VIP and this party will also have patrons in FULL costume.

I have chosen to go to Trick or Treat, I am not a drinker and two drinks are more than enough for me.  For the real drinkers Mask would be the better look.  Whichever ghoulish event you choose to attend, please understand that the night will be full of drinkers celebrating this 'Holiday' that will not only be drinking and driving but may not be describable due to the masks, paint, wigs, costumes and disguises that will be allowed on this day.  Be safe, that is whats MOST important.
