So I'm hearing that walking with money to register in this band is strongly advised. There are two sections already sold out and another on it's way. With 2015 being Island Gems' debut year, they are not waiting on their band launch to begin selling costumes.  Between close friends, family and models what they believe to be the 'HOT' sections are already SOLD OUT!  Masqueraders, don't be alarmed, Peter has assured me that room will be made for those few who are seriously interested. I TOLD YOU he was a REAL gem!!  I wasn't made clear on if jouvert registrations will be open as well but from my previous knowledge of Island Gems, it will be.  Since my leaving, things have changed up A LOT so just be prepared in case this is the direction you will be going come carnival day/jouvert morning.

You can add this as the 4th section in the Something Jouvert band.  From what I'm understanding (from Marlon) is that this section is for the more "mature crowd".  I beg to differ, I think this is the ideal section for anyone who was too young to play the jouvert mas of old.  People who only watched pictures of their parents, grandparents and so on on the road.  This gives everyone a chance to be in Some'ting' Jouvert!

SOMETHING JOUVERT has a secret section.  When this first came across the table, it didn't too much matter to me because who DOESN'T have a secret section in either a jouvert or mas band these days? This section captures the very essence of Jouvert. I'm down and all for it.  The official announcement will be made on Friday so keep your ears and your eyes open!

Something Jouvert is back by popular demand.  Last year the band was like all the others, we were ALL just trying a thing because Miami-Broward Carnival Committee has never in all the years of existence; added a FULL jouvert to the Miami/Broward carnival line up of events.  No one knew exactly what to expect or what they were actually getting themselves into.  'Cause lets face it, we as Caribbean people know how this thing goes.  We are told one thing and get another.  We behaved ourselves and got our jouvert for a second year and Something Jouvert is coming out BIGGER and BETTER than last year! Some of our masqueraders were discussing this at the Fathers Day launch on Sunday and didn't see how this was possible but yes, there is PLENTY more in store for the masqueraders than what we had last year.  IS LEVEL PUMP!

Do like Santa and check the list twice because these sponsors have already made a commitment to attend and more has been added.  Can you imagine all these crazy people at one event? MADNESS! What started out as a general fundraiser for the "Something Jouvert" jouvert band has become an ole time lime.  

This will NOT be a ticketed event Broward Regional Park charges a fee of $1.50 each person entering the park. This fee is for ages 6 and up.  If you didn't catch that, 6 and up means that your entire family is welcomed to come to this Sunday lunch.  Bring your friends and family as you eat, drink and have a good time. The children will be satisfied because the location is near to the park. Music will be steady. Quite a few DJ's will be in the mix, some on the flyer, some are not.  The tasty food and the assortment of drinks WILL be for sale.  There will be something there for everyone.

MIAMI CARNIVAL JOUVERT

The Miami Broward Carnival Committee has made a mistake and decided to add REAL jouvert for the Miami/Broward Carnival events lineup. *This is the closest I've seen when coming to traditional jouvert excepting when jouvert was jouvert in Brooklyn. It will not be in an enclosed venue like a club but out in the open at Broward Regional Park. It will however be from 7am to 1pm and not early enough in the morning for the sun to still be down but say what?! Iz jouvert!!!  This is the band I will be with and YES, I'm jumping on the ball because their first mistake was having a jouvert. The next mistake was allowing Giselle D Wassi One and Island Gems to team up with one another. This duo will mash up the poor park and there will be NO BEHAVIOR!!! I for one will be there to help with the bacchanal. I could see it now, after we're done with jouvert in that park, there wont be a jouvert for 2013. Hope to see you there!!!!

MIAMI CARNIVAL'S WEEKEND BAND LAUNCH

Leave it to Giselle, THE Wassi One to have her band launch last.  Just when I thought everything for the Miami band launch season was on a stand still I get the ess that not only will Giselle be having a band launch THIS WEEKEND but she will be having an entire weekend extravaganza!  The weekend will consist of 4 events in a 3 day weekend  better known as the WASSI WEEKEND!!!  All events will have a live display of a costumes EXCEPT the Family Fun Day on Saturday during the day.

Wassi One's this year will be bringing to you REFLECTIONS. this section is called Reflections.......of Life and it is being brought to you by Island Gems Mas. I am always honest on all of my blog entries, so I wont stop being honest now.  With all the band launches taking place and with the OFFICIAL Miami-Broward One Carnival Launch that passed on Saturday, many people are contacting me and asking which band I am playing with this year.  

THIS is the one, this band and this section.  I love the vibes of Wassi One's.  Giselle 'Wassi' Branche brings her explosive energy TO the band and they take everybody! There is no label on what size, sex, color or race you hada be to get into the band and I love that.  They are just a group of people that want to get on BAD on the road and the name of the band says it all, WASSI ONES!!!!  What I wont do however is advertise whether I'm frontline or backline, like anyone has to guess hard. LOL

VIEWINGS OF ISLAND GEMS AND ADALIA MAS!!!!!

One of the sections within the WASSI ONE'S mas band had a viewing on Saturday night and it was awesome.  Let me begin by saying KUDOS to ISLAND GEMS/ISLAND GEMS MAS for pulling off a Curry Que at one of my wine down spots, D Soca Ranch, in the rain!  The rain prevented NOTHING! The place was full of people, food and music. Music was brought to all by DJ's Ichunes and DeeInspector (GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!). Double 12 made an appearance and out of New York DJ Diamond Kutz came to MC.

REFLECTIONS OF LIFE by ISLAND GEMS MAS

 From what I hear, ISLAND GEMS MAS will be having their official photo shoot this Saturday and the OFFICIAL SECTION LAUNCH will be held at SOCA 360/ NAKED on July 9th @ The Calder Racetrack. At this time completed costumes will be shown along with the mens costume.  Pictures will be posted on the ISLAND GEMS WEBSITE shortly after the launch. This makes TWO of Wassi's sections that are not waiting on the band launch to show off their sections.  We also have X'ixic Winic by Adalia Mas! This section will be on display at Ginger Bay THIS THURSDAY in Hollywood, so get your cameras together and charge them up!  This section has already had their photo shoot and are all ready to go!  Adalia's section pictures can be viewed HERE.

MIAMI CARNIVAL BEGINNING TO STIR!

ISLAND GEMS

ISLAND GEMS MAS started as a section within the Miami Carnival Band WASSI ONES led by none other than Giselle Blanche better known as WASSI!!! The creators of ISLAND GEMS MAS Lesel and Tiffany has not only begun their costume designing but have finished their protypes ALREADY for their 2011 section with WASSI ONES!!!!! Being bored with the seasonal mas productivity Lesel began to think outside the box and has decided to not only be involved in the culture seasonally but has decided to bring to you a fulltime organization.  The thought process of this organization derived from the love of her country and culture of Trinidad and Tobago but now has broadened her horizons in the hopes of infecting all other people from all races, creeds, countries, beliefs and behaviors.  After all, as they say, we are all ISLAND GEMS!!!!!!

I'm excited to know whats in store for this dynamic duo as far as costumes and have been reliably informed that mas costume pics for this years Miami Carnival will be up shortly.  Until then, take a look at some pictures, read up on some information from other parts of the world and stay tuned!
