This event is not being held indoors but outside in the road, something like a block party to get your body in a jouvert gear.  Should you get to the location and NOT see your jouvert truck, have no fear.  Due to the location of the roti shop and the jouvert having 21 bands registered this year, all the trucks will NOT be in attendance. Could you imagine 21 big trucks lined up in the road jamming?  The ONLY truck that will DEFINITELY be in attendance is the truck of Something Jouvert.  The Something Jouvert truck *and DJ's will be the ones pumpin the music and the vibes.  Lets get it together people, 3am, October 12, the pre jouvert/pre breakfast jamdong. Lehwe goooo!

WASSI BABES PRESENT DARE

This is typical Giselle.  Giselle, The Wassi One has taken to heart the events that happened in Stanford, Florida.  Wassi Ones has presented DARE which has more inner inspiration on being a better YOU. Wassi Babes however has taken a different approach than that of the adults. . . .  The children have a tribute to Treyvon Martin.

This section is the section for boys.  Little boys in this section will have a clear understanding of how and what happened in Sanford, Florida and how things like this should NEVER happen.  No matter what you decide to wear or how you wear it, there is no excuse for the violence exhibited and this hoodied costume is Wassi Babes' tribute to Treyvon Martin.  Along with this hoodie, the boys will get standards with Skittles attached to it.

Children have every right to feel HAPPY, comfortable enought to be DIFFERENT, should never lose HOPE and most of all, be able to leave their homes with never knowing the feeling of being being PROFILED.  Whether they're being profiled because of race, gender, sexual orientation or looks.  No child should feel unsafe, for any reason.  As adults we have a LOT to do.

UPDATE ON MIAMI MAS BAND

D-Junction Mas Update

Greetings D Junction Mas Crew. Carnival is drawing near and this will be the first of weekly emails we will be sending out to keep you posted on what's going with the band.

First, the question that's on all your minds. When do I get my costume? That date is Monday October 7th to Friday October 11th . Please make arrangements if possible to have someone local pick up your costume if you are not available during that time frame. Just let us know ahead of time if someone will be collecting your costume.

We will be sending out final invoices by Tuesday September 11th. All costumes must be paid for before pick up.

We want the costume collection to be smooth, hassle free and Fun, yes we will have live djs and food on sale.

Some questions that we have been asked:

• Is there a limit on drinks or are you giving drink tickets - NO there is no limit on drinks, NO we are not doing drink tickets, just drink what you can handle please is all we ask.
• How will the food be handled - You will be provided a ticket for your food. IMPORTANT: If you lose your food ticket you will have to wait until everyone has gotten their food before you are served.
• Who is doing the sound system - SoundRev Media Group will be providing sound on the road.
• Who are the DJs: Walshy Fire, Jester (Canada), Barrie Hype, Base 2 muzik and Ryan Slim Vybes
• What number are we on the road - The number selection has not happened as yet we will update you as soon as that occurs.

OLD TIME SOMETHING COME BACK AGAIN

Good Morning and Happy Friday!!! As promised Something Jouvert has something to share!!!

Who remembers Ole Time J'ouvert?  Growing up and being afraid of the characters seen in pictures or on the road until your parents or siblings explained the whole jouvert concept.. Characters that use to make a j'ouvert j'ouvert?  Those were the Good Old Days.  Well, Something J'ouvert would like to introduce and welcome an additional section:

"Bring Back D Ole Time Days"!

You can add this as the 4th section in the Something Jouvert band.  From what I'm understanding (from Marlon) is that this section is for the more "mature crowd".  I beg to differ, I think this is the ideal section for anyone who was too young to play the jouvert mas of old.  People who only watched pictures of their parents, grandparents and so on on the road.  This gives everyone a chance to be in Some'ting' Jouvert!

EUPHORIA MAS PROMO VIDEO!!

Things are finally starting to heat up in South Florida. The Miami Broward One Carnival band launch was Saturday and EUPHORIA MAS released a video yesterday morning. They will NOT be forgotten about. The video was prepared as a little something to let their potential masqueraders know what to expect on the road....

GAME ON!

BAND LAUNCH WEEKEND

The one weekend that I should have stayed in and watch the TRIBE/BLISS Two Band One Launch via live stream, was the same weekend I decided to step out.  Most would and have said that it was on purpose because of my unconditional loyalties to ISLANDpeople Mas but who has time to argue?  

I attended the Miami Broward One Carnival Band Launch for the first time and it was just as expected.  There was a semi-circle of booths with costumes, pictures of costumes, music played by a DJ, live pan, food and drinks on sale at the Sun Life Stadium.  I wasn't there to take pictures or to publicly talk about costumes afterward but to simply spectate and support my good friends, some family and take registrations for our baby, Something Jouvert.  I did however leave with some lasting impressions.

Carnival Nationz I didn't see them and their absence left a bitter taste in my mouth seeing as I would have liked to see as much as I could on that one night. I know they're bringing a band this year but hey, maybe they stayed home to watch the TRIBE/BLISS band launch as well.

D-Junction Mas has brought it!  They showed 3 of their 4 sections and the crowd was impressed *as expected.

Freaks Mas seemed to put all they had into their New York band because the costumes weren't as nice.  

Wassi Ones Giselle not only MC'd the event, she showed 3 sections of her band and the costumes were also very pretty.  I wasn't given a lot of time to see them because just her band is last on the road, hers was the last to display costumes on Saturday.  I didn't catch the names of the sections and the costumes didn't get to soak in because Ms Wassi Giselle invited everyone, whether you were a model or not, in a costume or not to come on the stage. E-ver-y one. It became a blurr.

Generation X SMH. Greg.... JP. What can I say about your Miami Miami? That allyuh takin win again for 2013? Generation X is the biggest band, they have the most sections, all sections are full, every costume is prettier than the last and DJ PRIVATE RYAN! 

All in all, Miami Broward Carnival mas bands have taken it up a few notches. They aren't on Trinidad and Tobago or Brazil status but I have seen a dramatic change for the better in the last couple years.  What used to be a place that didn't focus on the "go big or stay home" aspect of costuming has certainly conformed.     

NEWS FROM D-JUNCTION MAS

The Emerging Band D-Junction Mas' debut presentation is "Lost Treasures" for Miami Broward One Carnival 2013.  The Band will be displaying their costumes at the Miami Broward One Carnival Launch this Saturday at The Sun Life Stadium - Booth #6. Those who register that day will receive special discounts!  They will be taking registrations and are pleased to announce their contracted DJ's, Sound System and catering for the carnival. Below is an excerpt from their press release.

• DJ Walshy Fire - Highly renowned and respected throughtout the music universe as a doube-threat MC and selector for Miami's Grammy winning Black Chiney Sound System.
• Sizwe C. - Described as a true entertainer of South Florida. He's noted for his passion, his action-inspiring delivery and sharp lyrics.  His acclaim as a Hype-Man is also legendary and his understanding of Soca and boundless energy makes him as asset to any band.
• Jester - "It's Not A Joke".  Born and raised in Toronto, Jester's world-class turntable skills have helped him to be known as"North America's Most Versatile DJ".
• Base 2 Muzik Inc. - A very well recognized DJ based in south Florida for the past 18 years.  Base 2 MUZIK currently hosts a radio program on weekdays from 4pm which is broadcasted on FOUR stations simultaneously!!
• Slim Vibes - ends the line up of thier Music choices.  He is an up and coming South Florida DJ who is known for all genres of music but specializes in Dancehall and Soca
• The sound will be provided by SoundRev Media, Inc., a Miami, Florida based company with over 25 tears if experience specializing in pro audio rentals, sound engineering and audio equipment Installations.  This company encompasses over two decades of experience with Miami Broward One Carnival, providing top notch quality sound.

Food will be provided by two parties

• Breakfast:  Singh's Roti
• Lunch:  God2Go Cuisine
