BATTLE OF THE JOUVERT BANDS TONIGHT

This has got to be the most genius idea for the entire Miami Carnival season!  A prejouvert party.  There have been many a people (myself included) that have either missed a portion of jouvert or have missed it completely because they've tried to 'stay awake' at home and have ended up falling asleep just before the hour they were scheduled to be awake.

I remember living in Brooklyn.  Raleigh Place and Church Ave was always full of excitement and there was no way to miss the jouvert because the buzz was in the air, the people, the laughter, the building of the trucks and the loud music wouldn't allow it.  Not everyone has the luxury of having that much excitement at their doorsteps, especially here in South Florida.  There is no lime on every corner as it is in the BK and you have to drive E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E down here.

This is how Miami Vice the Masqueradas Fete was born.  The solution for the 'problem' is to create your own excitement and vibes.  On Friday night, the 9th of October there will be a fete that will begin around 10pm and end as a jouvert send off.  Masqueraders will be able to leave directly from Miami Vice and head straight into Miami Jouvert!  It'll be an assembly of all jouvert bands.

Let's see which jouvert band will have the biggest attendance!  It's the battle of the jouverts!  Once you go in your jouvert attire, you are given 50% entry to the fete.  That's a win win.  Let's go!!!!!

NEWS FROM SOMETHING JOUVERT!!!!

Jouvert has been the Miami Carnival creeper.  This is only the 4th year of the Miami Broward Carnival Committee incorporating a jouvert into our 'Miami Carnival' festivities and it has become one of the MUST DO's for Miami Carnival!

The jouvert band that I FULLY endorse is Something Jouvert.  News was just given that has me even more excited for October 10th to reach.....  Excitement is actually an understatement!

How many of you will be on the road with Something Jouvert?
How many of you want to finally be in a band that serves TOP SHELF liquor?
How many of you will party with the stars?
How many of you want to be in the band with the MOST vibes?

Here's a little little peek of the unisex tees, optional body suits and unisex sailor hats that will be given as part of the Something Jouvert 2015 package.  Nothing too close up lol.

To be a part of this kind of jouvert vibe, email wassionesmasband@gmail.com as the Something Jouvert team has taken a different approach starting with 2015 registrations.

SOCA BRAINWASH MIAMI: BIENVENIDO A MIAMI

There are many changes to mention with this event but we'll wait til the ticket sales have started to mention them.

It's hard for me to remain upset with my DJ crush for doing this as his talent surpass his wrong doings. Do any of you see the problem with this event?  The event starts at 2pm and ends at 8pm.   I TOTALLY get it. Scorch is after Soca Brainwash and DJ Private Ryan is most likely carded for both BUT what about the die hard Private Ryan followers who are also die hard jouvert partakers??

The Miami Carnival jouvert is scheduled from 6am until 2pm and the plan for many was to revel for each minute of the allotted time.  Seeing as every request, suggestion and plea with the man himself were all ignored, I have no other choice but to change my jouvert plans as missing this event is NOT an option and I will have to leave the jouvert at EXACTLY 2pm!  Talking about DJ Private Ryan's events, that leads me to the last event in Miami "Leo".  That review will be up tomorrow.

Ticket information, location and pricing will be made public soon.  Just remember to have your money on hand when the website becomes active.  *Last time I gave a warning was for Euphoria Mas' band launch. Not everyone got their money up and were quite upset, complaining and reportedly crying at the speed the band was sold out in.  Don't be left out in the cold.

MIAMI JOUVERT RUMOR SET........ STRAIGHT?

This is a record breaker! The Miami Carnival One rumors have begun but this time it's not about the carnival but the jouvert!

The Miami Broward One Carnival Committee has done an ah-ma-zing job at not only bringing what feels like the closest thing to a Trinidad and Tobago jouvert to the "Miami Carnival" experience but going strong without casualty for the last 3 years at the Broward Regional Park is just as impressive. I have always loved the venue because it is not even a 10 minute drive from my home but I think this is the earliest that I've heard rumors start.  Yes, as early as February the 'niggagram' has already started about the location of the jouvert to being changed from the Broward Regional Park to a location in Doral. Not even an exact venue ok but that it will be held "somewhere in Doral, where the Miami Carnival was last year".

Now, I'm a firm believer of where there is smoke, there is a fire so I've done my own investigation seeing as this rumor affects me directly.  I was assured that the Miami jouvert that has been held at the Broward Regional Park for the last three years, is still the official site/venue of the jouvert for 2015.  In the same breath, it was also said that the option was still on the table but as for now, Lauderhill is the oficial site for jouvert.  Wait, what?  Which one is it? Sounds more to me like Lauderhill is secured but they're still looking for something bigger, better or possibly cheaper.  This late in the game and with the size of crowd expected, things like venue should already be finalized so my confidence is pretty much high for 2015 but I'd look out for 2016. Lauderhill may not be the home for our jouvert for much longer.

If you feel like me and would love to see the jouvert stay where it is in Lauderhill or maybe not, either way you have a voice.  Send letters, make phone calls and send emails to voice what you'd like to see happen.  People tend to underestimate just how much power they have to make changes.

NEXT LAUNCH, WASSI ONES & SOMETHING JOUVERT!

If you only knew the madness that is about to unfold!

While sitting among Team Wassi I noticed a difference. The changes put in place by Giselle were as serious as they were drastic.  Team Wassi intends to WOW us with the many Wonders Of Wassi.  NEVER underestimate the power of a woman as there will be Wassi Babes, for a third year and going strong will be Something Jouvert the intimate all inclusive jouvert band and the grand finale Wassi Ones portraying W.O.W. for the Miami-Broward One 2014 Carnival. There has been a shake up in Team Wassi and so far, the shake up is proving to be a positive one.

EUPHORIA'S BAND LAUNCH HAS A CHANGE OF VENUE!!!

BUT PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO THE EUPHORIA MAS BAND LAUNCH, THEY NEEDED A BIGGER VENUE.  THE BAND LAUNCH WILL NOW BE AT KARU. KARU IS LOCATED AT 1000 W STATE ROAD 84, FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA 33315

Euphoria Mas, has set the pace being the FIRST "Miami Carnival" mas band to launch their 2014 presentation "Let's Dance". "Let's Dance" will feature different dances of the world.  I can vision it now because there are so many dances that can be portrayed and tomorrow we will see the dances unfold at Karu.

The intent is to arrive early and leave late as I've promised to have not only camera in hand but pen and paper ready to jot down every detail for those who can not attend the launch. No drinks for me....

I haven't made it out in months so to be stepping out for Euphoria's Band Launch, is BIG!!!!  By the way, have I told you all that Richard and Anthony will be in attendance for the massive launch? No? Okay, the infamous duo Richard and Anthony of Richard and Anthony Productions & Concepts have been here since Sunday preparing for you all.  Let's see if they do with Euphoria what they've done with ISLANDpeople, Fantasy, Ramajay and YUMA *to name a few.  We shall see tomorrow!!!  LET THE BAND LAUNCHES BEGIN!!

OLD TIME SOMETHING COME BACK AGAIN

Good Morning and Happy Friday!!! As promised Something Jouvert has something to share!!!

Who remembers Ole Time J'ouvert?  Growing up and being afraid of the characters seen in pictures or on the road until your parents or siblings explained the whole jouvert concept.. Characters that use to make a j'ouvert j'ouvert?  Those were the Good Old Days.  Well, Something J'ouvert would like to introduce and welcome an additional section:
"Bring Back D Ole Time Days"!
For more info and pricing you can contact:
Joy 954-448-1208
Marlon "Eternal Vibes" Marcano 954-661-910.
You can add this as the 4th section in the Something Jouvert band.  From what I'm understanding (from Marlon) is that this section is for the more "mature crowd".  I beg to differ, I think this is the ideal section for anyone who was too young to play the jouvert mas of old.  People who only watched pictures of their parents, grandparents and so on on the road.  This gives everyone a chance to be in Some'ting' Jouvert!

SOMETHING JOUVERT SECTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

ORIGINAL SECTION
Giselle the Wassi One and Island Gems
Giselle 786-712-7190
Kim 954-687-3215
Lesel 954-625-5668

Card Fathers alongside Trini Mafia Section
Sunil 954-579-6319
*this section has been advertised with another Jouvert band but this is the ONLY band they will be with

Jamdong Management Section
Mud Devils and Dirty Angels
Kyle 954-536-7772
Zak 954-889-1808

Bring Back D Ole Time Days
Joy 954-448-1208
Marlon "Eternal Vibes" Marcano 954-661-910

This is by far THE BIGGEST JOUVERT BAND!!!!

SECRET SECTION

SOMETHING JOUVERT has a secret section.  When this first came across the table, it didn't too much matter to me because who DOESN'T have a secret section in either a jouvert or mas band these days? This section captures the very essence of Jouvert. I'm down and all for it.  The official announcement will be made on Friday so keep your ears and your eyes open!

SOMETHING JOUVERT REGISTRATION HAS BEGUN

REGISTRATION IS UP!
If you missed Canboulay in Brooklyn, have no fear.
SOMETHING JOUVERT HAS GOT YOU COVERED
Something Jouvert is back by popular demand.  Last year the band was like all the others, we were ALL just trying a thing because Miami-Broward Carnival Committee has never in all the years of existence; added a FULL jouvert to the Miami/Broward carnival line up of events.  No one knew exactly what to expect or what they were actually getting themselves into.  'Cause lets face it, we as Caribbean people know how this thing goes.  We are told one thing and get another.  We behaved ourselves and got our jouvert for a second year and Something Jouvert is coming out BIGGER and BETTER than last year! Some of our masqueraders were discussing this at the Fathers Day launch on Sunday and didn't see how this was possible but yes, there is PLENTY more in store for the masqueraders than what we had last year.  IS LEVEL PUMP!

Something Jouvert WILL be supplying:
  • PREMIUM DRINKS/TOP SHELF
  • Surprise artists (we can't spill the beans but they're already LOCKED and LOADED.  You're gonna LOVE them, TRUST)
  • Live DJ's on the music truck to include iChunes and Eternal Vibes
  • Wristband from the committee
  • Wristband from Something Jouvert (we won't be giving your drinks away to anyone but YOU)
  • Home made Breakfast
  • Live Rhythm Section out of Orlando
  • T-Shirt
  • Whistle *men
  • Horn *women
  • Glasses

SOMETHING JOUVERT SUNDAY LUNCH LIME

SAVE THE DATE!
SOMETHING JOUVERT
FUNDRAISING LIME
Do like Santa and check the list twice because these sponsors have already made a commitment to attend and more has been added.  Can you imagine all these crazy people at one event? MADNESS! What started out as a general fundraiser for the "Something Jouvert" jouvert band has become an ole time lime.

This will NOT be a ticketed event Broward Regional Park charges a fee of $1.50 each person entering the park. This fee is for ages 6 and up.  If you didn't catch that, 6 and up means that your entire family is welcomed to come to this Sunday lunch.  Bring your friends and family as you eat, drink and have a good time. The children will be satisfied because the location is near to the park. Music will be steady. Quite a few DJ's will be in the mix, some on the flyer, some are not.  The tasty food and the assortment of drinks WILL be for sale.  There will be something there for everyone.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

SOMETHING JOUVERT

I decided from weeks ahead that I would NOT be going to the Broward Regional Park early Jouvert morning because I have school on Saturdays and figured that taking my test that morning would be the priority.  Don't get it twisted though, I asked my professor to skip the review and take the test as soon as I came in because I had a 'prior engagement'. After taking my test *which I aced by the way, I ran down to the park. I got easy parking and walked into the park at or about 10:30am. While walking in I remembered thinking how surprised I was that there was no entrance fee for the park or for parking. If you can remember, just the week prior, the same committee charged EVERY SINGLE PERSON to gain entrance to the park for kiddies carnival and the parking wasn't free, you were charged PER PERSON inside the car.  I wonder what changed....same committee, same park *shrugs shoulders.

At 10:30am while I was walking in, there were people doused in paint and others in mud WALKING OUT!!!!! I began feeling discouraged, like maybe this was the one time Caribbean people said they'd start at a particular time and did and this entire Jouvert thing was now over. WRONG!!! I desperately looked for my band. Just when I was about to give up looking, I found them, colored in blue and pink paint. Then there was the mud. While thanking the Lord I never found the oil, I arranged my drink almost immediately. I had to make up for lost time lol.  Unfortunately I got there too late for the breakfast, which happened to be fried bake and buljol but hey, I can't eat AND take a test right?

I knew from only the night before that there was a hiccup with our drinks cups and knew to come with my own. To those who didn't know to bring their own, they got disposable plastic cups to drink in.... Things happen that are out of people's control and that was one of them. The band not having the cups didn't seem to be too much of a concern for anyone though because what was supposed to be FILLING the cups, NEVER ran out . The drinks were generously given and everyone seemed to be having a GREAT time!!!
Jouvert is dear to me. It kicks off my carnival (and you ALL know how I feel about carnival). For years I've wondered why we here in South Florida never had a real 'traditional' one because it's not like we didn't have the space or support of the Caribbean people. First thought of Jouvert in Miami Broward I thought it would be a first and last. I thought we would mashup the Regional Park. I expected for committee members of both the Regional Park and Miami Broward Carnival Committee to see the disaster they've gotten themselves into but no, not even I could find a valid reason why to not have it again next year. There was once again, no casualties that I can recall, no fussing, no fighting and a bunch of people that had an amazing time. Although we literally painted the park an assortment of colors, we were orderly.  The messes weren't excessive and surprisingly there was minimal paint on the floor. This wasn't of just our band but an observation made while walking throughout ALL the bands.  Jouvert was bess and HAS to be a keeper!!!!!
