NEWS FROM ISLAND PEOPLE MAS!

Here we go guys, my favorite mas band in all of Trinidad!!  Some may disagree with me on it being the best but I wasn't put on this Earth to care about their feelings or opinions.People are sadly confusing customer service with pampering. When 'I' play mas, I am not looking to be pampered as if I'm in some blasted day spa, (there are day spa's for that)! There are those who go off on things like that for two reasons. They are either not used to things like that and I call that NEVER SEE COME SEE OR they are a little too used to that and warrant that kind of pampering throughout the year leading up to and including carnival. Well, to each their own.  My belief is that there is a time and a place for everything. Carnival time is a time to free your mind, body and soul. A time to let go, to exhale their inner leggobeast.  Anyway lets.....
Get ready to Summon the Guardians!
Carnival 2016, experience the new IPmas as we present 'Pantheon.'

Launch details coming soon…

They seem to have a  new catchy logo as well....

WORDS FROM DAVID WEARS

David Wears was moved enough to write a note on Facebook that I felt the WORLD should have read! My personal thoughts and feelings will remain with me until I can respectfully say what I want concerning the public opinions of ISLANDpeople Mas on the whole.  Kudos to him for NOT following the sheep!

Just my 2 cents on: ISLANDPeopleMas 2014 presentation of WHOLE Mystery Magic Marvel....

LET ME SAY THIS ABOUT #ISLANDPeople: When they fail, they does always get MAJOR rag up for their failure, BUT when they succeed, they does HIT IT out of the OVAL!

Well done, Dane & Derek Lewis, this is yours idea, your brand & your baby. Excellent work, Marlon, Colin & Penny for your creativity, your constant pushing the brand and making the brand WORK. You & your teams have scored big time with something NEW, FRESH & APPEALING!

Well done, Curtis Bachan, lighting director for this event for NAPA! As a photographer, you know how I does cuss allyuh, lol, but the lighting balance with spot on, as is customary with your productions.

When we all assembled at NAPA, Port of Spain, thinking, "What IP coming with now,", I, for one, was a little concerned, as it was a new project for the IP team and there was quite a lot of planning involved.

Walking into the auditorium, looking at the fog-filled space, seeing 2 stages, each off to the sides, opposite of the auditorium staircases, with 2 screen behind the stages, pleased that they were projection based & not LED so the lighting was still perfect onstage, but I saw the 40" TV monitor smack dab in the middle of the floor in front, I wondered what the hell next.

The presentation was a bit long, 75mins, BUT, to me, it kept me entertained throughout. It was mix of mas, drama & performance. I coulda do without the Honourable Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism, Dr Lincoln Douglas, who PROVES once again, the reason for walking with a PREPARED SPEECH, which he DIDN'T. I will ignore him.

The 1st segment's sections, Awakening, Dovev(Whispering Truth) & Nahimana(That which is Mystic) show off the Mystery element, with their heavy torquoise, blues, reds & browns hues. Impressive costumes all round but pleased to see Awakening Gladiator man-wear, which will certainly have those musclemen & undercover male S&M lovers thinking of joining.

Spoken word poet, Jean-Claude Cournand, enters the stage to give us his narrative, "A wine could change your life", a very witty view on how IP masqueraders joined the band and it changed their lives. From one about a 1st time visitor to Trinidad, marrying the woman he met & wined on during that Carnival, to calculated proof that a carnival wine led to a birth.

A party Drinks truck cut-out passes across the stage to 'pick up' Jean-Claude complete with a masquerader who hurriedly attempts to teach him how to wine, another FAILED affair! On the 2nd pass by the truck, it drops off Swappy, who mash up the place & shows how to wine as he passing up the auditorium staircase to the exit. LOL

The 2nd segment impresses as the 1st, costumes aplenty, colours & beauties wining on stage. This segment defines the magic, and I have to add, the section, Zulimar ends with the appearance of T&T's TOP MODEL, Soowan Bramble, giving homage to the female frontline costume, which is also beautiful, but THAT WOMAN IS BOSS!! She could make a URP uniform BRILLIANT if she ever has to wear it, even with the HELMET on!! LOL. She received a lusty(and I DO mean lustful) round of applause & cheers from the large turnout as she hit the stage.

Segment 2 ends with Inga Schluer adding violin to the voices of the Bishop Anstey High School's Senior Choir & the vibrant young rhythm section, Hands of Rhythm. They created a harmony entwining soca classics and new rhythms, leading us into the final segment, Mystery, and its sections. Soca artist, Patrice Roberts ends that section coming onstage in full costume and looking GREAT, no longer the little skinny tom-boy dressed Toco gyul, but blossoming into a young ripe Trinbago woman that would melt any heart(and a lil lower) and her costume, from section Qu'elle Marveille, gave tribute to this.
All segments appeared onstage for the last time at the finale and they proceeded out the auditorium to the front foyer for photos and refreshments.

I was very pleased with the turnout of this event for more than one reason. This was the 1st time I had my daughter accompany me and I was glad to see that she witnessed a production that put a little meaning into its event, giving some explanation to why this is done. My 13yr old nodded and bobbed to the music, questioned the reason for such scantily clad wear & enjoyed the overall production. I couldn't ask for more, after all, LET'S FACE IT, we ALL go to Tribe, Fantasy, Yuma, Harts &them others where they all fall into the line of; presentation for 45 minutes, FETE for 4hrs, drink alcohol, get drunk, get lucky, go home. This was a difference. A well thought out event giving another measure of entertainment to those who came. A product that I do hope was visually recorded and will be places online, as I heard it wasn't streamed(unfortunately). Mind you, there was THE FETE after, as all were invited to Zen where, from what I heard, party went on till after 2am. SO THERE!!

And what did people there think? Lemme quote 2 friends. One said it best, "I didn't know this was a race, but IPMas certainly gave the BEST presentation(for 2014)." and another was, "I can't WAIT to see what's gonna happen next year!". I too can't wait, after all, it's gonna be Island People's 10th Anniversary so they have to come good! LOL.

Final word: I know with our fickle society, we love to kick you when you down, and remind you that we did, and then we quickly forget to praise you when you succeed. I have always seen this and tried my best NOT to follow the norm.

I wish to say to you, guys, Well done, IP, for hitting it out of the Oval!

PS. Pls FORGIVE me for not mentioning super T&T dance group, Eclectic, who performed during the showing of IP section, Auric. They were fantastic!!

MORE ON ISLAND PEOPLE

With there being no live feed of ISLANDpeople Mas' band launch last night, I had to wait for pictures and videos to surface on social networks.  Shortly after 10pm, pictures started popping up all over Facebook.  At first I was VERY worried because the first set of pictures I saw were posted by ISLANDpeople Mas themselves on their Facebook Page.  One would think the best pictures of ISLANDpeople Mas' costumes would come from ISLANDpeople Mas but no, they weren't. Pictures posted by them were  not clear, there was poor lighting, no close up shots and missing sections.  In the rush to give the Facebook fans SOMETHING the beauty of the costumes were lost and left me discouraged. It felt as if I was being tortured for not being in NAPA!  Thank God I found this video on the Facebook page of CarnivalScene.com along with some clear pictures.  Then just a few moments ago ISLANDpeople Mas shared the David Wears Facebook Album for some more..

MY FEELINGS TOWARD ISLANDpeople's LAUNCH

Good morning peeps.

Let me begin by saying,  I'm a die hard ISLANDpeople Mas masquerader and I defend them to the very end BUT allyuh, I feel this is the end for me at least for 2012.  I watched the disaster fold before me via of Triniscene AND CarnivalTV.  I kept jumping from one program to the next in hopes that I was just seeing incorrectly or that maybe it was the lighting or something.  They both showed the same footage, from different angles and from any angle I watched, it was bad.

I will not comment on the skits that were done because that in itself is another blog entry that I wont even waste my time doing but those costumes. Urgh.  In all fairness, I did go to Saucy's blog, The Trinidad Carnival Diary and viewed her review of ISLANDpeople's Band Launch as well as her pictures and realized that the costumes looked way worse at the live launch.  The pictures were up close and personal and after viewing them, have seen a couple possibilities.  I mean, even the red costume shown in their teaser, The Scarlet I, wasn't appealing at the launch.  I believe it was a combination of the shitty lighting and corny skits that took away from that wow factor Friday night.

I thought with the delayed band launch (of a week) that the band's website would have gone up almost instantly and checked HERE on Saturday and there was a screensaver available for download.  Once this screensaver was downloaded, I saw the costumes AGAIN.  This was even better than the pictures on Saucy's website.  I got to see the costumes in better lighting and ALL of  the options, being the backlines, frontlines, individuals and males.  Males have problems this year as I'm seeing that not all sections, matter fact, many sections of many bands have just scrapped the male sections completely out.  After looking, relooking and basically forcing myself to like (forget love) more than one of the costumes, I announced boldly lol, that I'd be playing in The Scarlet I on my facebook page, sent out a message to people who wanted to play mas with me on my own personal carnival 2012 group. Well, usually I have an overwhelming response, not this time lol. Like I was on my own and I could literally hear the birds chirping along with their echos.  I am in no way a follower and take pride in being my own trendsetter and follow my own rules but really, who wants to play mas alone?  I mean, not even my sisters, the twins, who are carnival virgins wanted to give IP a fair chance for 2012 and I guess I can not blame them because I an all had trouble finding another section besides The Scarlet I to like.  ME, Mrs ISLANDpeople.

**On a hopeful note, I've been reliably informed that the committee members had a meeting yesterday and have decided to give a public announcement today about their 'costumes' and are doing a complete revamp after considering all the negative feedback from just about everyone who saw the band launch.  The only thing is, they've had all these months to prepare decent looking costumes and have come short, I don't see how they will be able to do a complete revamp in enough time to display them somewhere or somehow BEFORE the registration for  BLISS, Fantasy, SPICE, TRIBE or YUMA officially opens.  People have formed their opinions already and have already decided to jump ship.  If they can pull it off in enough time, dem is some super heroes for real!!!! I wish them the best of luck and feel in all honesty, they should chuck it up for 2012 and just start doing designs for 2013 cause 2012 was an epic fail.  I saw what they tried to do but it just didn't work out as visioned. Sorry IP.

ISLAND PEOPLE LIVE FEED LINKS

Just as last weeks setup both TRINISCENE and CARNIVALTV will be airing live feed of the ISLANDpeople Mas band launch starting at 11pm.  I just hope this week we get to see costumes instead of getting news of a postponed launch.  I don't think anyone will give this band a THIRD chance, seeing as there are so many out there that are ALREADY praying for their failure. Funny, the people that hate them so much as a band will still be glued to their computer screens tonight to see what IP has to offer. SMH

FOR TRINISCENE'S LINK CLICK

AND FOR CARNIVALTV'S  LINK CLICK
(scroll down to 'head over to live feed')

My advice to you is to have both feeds open.  With TRINISCENE you can get the commentary from SAUCY of TRINIDAD CARNIVAL DIARY and I have in the past lost audio, video and for some minutes at a time BOTH on TRINISCENE and CARNIVALTV was JUST as good. I didn't miss anything.  Just a suggestion.

BREAKING NEWS!! ISLAND PEOPLE POSTPONES BAND LAUNCH

Imagine the horror!  I was in the mall and got a message on my phone to look on the Facebook wall of ISLANDpeople Mas and it read as follows:

Breaking News!
‘ISLANDpeople Postpones 2012 Band Launch’
Port of Spain, Trinidad. Friday 5th August 2011. Due to the inclement weather brought about by the weather system being experienced over Trinidad and Tobago, ISLANDpeople Mas regrettably has had to postpone the launch of its 2012 Carnival presentation ‘Heroes’.

This decision was made after a calculated assessment based on weather forecasts and information received from communication with the MET office. Careful consideration was also made for the safety and comfort of patrons, specially invited guests, performers, models and staff.

The inclement weather has affected the setup of a sophisticated infrastructural installation, dramatic pyrotechnic display and other special effects that were to be used for the heroes’ presentation.

Please note that all ticket commitments will be honoured for the new date and queries for refunds can directed to ISLANDpeople Mas at 622-8145, 628-9474 or email info@islandpeople.com.

For information on the new date, please look out for media updates and check out the www.islandpeoplemas.com and islandpeople mas facebook fan page.

ISLANDpeople Mas is well on its way to making everything in 2012 VIP: Very ISLANDpeople.

Guess, the flex (as of now) will only be to OASIS' band launch. That leaves me out, Im not interested.

LIVE STREAM FOR ISLANDpeople BAND LAUNCH

Once again, both websites are going to be airing the ISLANDpeople band lauch tonight starting at 11pm but there is a twist to tonight's band launch.  OASIS will be having their band launch tonight as well.  Well, for commentary done by the undiluted SAUCE of TRINIDAD CARNIVAL DIARY you can view the launch via TRINISCENE'S LINK.  Thing with Triniscene, is that they will also be airing the feed for OASIS, I'm not too sure how it will all work out, if they will have two separate links for them or what. Guess we will find out when that time comes!

Then you can go to the CARNIVAL TV LINK.  They will only be airing ISLANDpeople Mas' band lauch, not that of OASIS.  For TRIBE's band launch, I started off watching Triniscene AND CarnivalTV.  Somehow, about 5-10 minutes before the show started, I lost video from Triniscene and ended up watching the entire launch only on CarnivalTV.  So, what I am going to do, is watch them both again and see where I end up and follow Saucy via twitter, facebook and her blog! Come on, its ISLANDpeople Mas, I've got to see it to its entirety lol

SEE YOU IN ABOUT 12 HOURS!!!

I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!

HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH THE TEASERS

The hype is certainly building as TRIBE and ISLANDpeople Mas have let the cat out of the bag, but oh gawd, how you will pull the cat out the bag and push it back in there?  These band have BOTH left their eagerly awaiting masqueraders in the dark all the way until NOW about what their blasted theme is! What's the big deal? It's getting me more than antsy because I have missed out on T&T 2011 and I am admittedly TUSTY!!!!!!!

ISLAND PEOPLE BAND LAUNCH DATE

The wait is finally over for most of you huh?

Save the date. Friday the 20th of August marks the date that Island People Mas will be revealing their Shades Of The Universe.

I was one of the people that knew of the launch date but although I was reliably informed, I was also sworn to secrecy. However, I feel the need to no longer keep my lips sealed as the IslandPeople Mas Group page on facebook revealed this picture last night!

The plan was to be in Trinidad to take numerous pictures of the band launch but not everything happens as planned. Thank God for trinidadcarnivaldiary.com!!! Bigups to the Sauce!!
